Building Healthier Workplaces
Statement of Purpose:
The Building Healthier Workplaces Committee is comprised of a group of volunteer professionals who share a vision to promote learning and approaches for organizations to create healthier workplaces.
- To create a dialogue between professionals to share and learn healthy workplace strategies
- To bring together credible speakers to present and discuss tools organizations can utilize to create healthier workplaces
- To energize a momentum within the professional community focusing on workplace culture, mental health in the workplace and leadership
- To provide a venue for professionals to learn and network on key topics in support of healthier workplaces
About the Committee
Catherine Thomas, CEC, PCC, CHRP, Committee Chair
Catherine, Chair of Building Healthier Workplaces, has been involved with the Conference since its inception in 2005. She oversees programming, sponsorship and is an integral member of the Conference Team. Catherine holds a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University, and has completed Graduate Studies in Conflict Resolution from Carleton University. She is a certified Human Resource Professional, having graduated from the University of Ottawa after completing Business Administration studies.
Gillian Dawson, M.A., Consultant, Health Strategy, Morneau Shepell
A seasoned Consultant in the field of workplace health, Gillian has extensive experience in advising clients on the development of comprehensive strategies to support their health and human resources objectives. Gillian is dedicated to using research to inform action, and advises clients how to employ evidence-based practice to answer key questions, fill information gaps, and ultimately, implement effective health strategies. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Kinetics with specialization in applied health intervention and consultation. A passionate health advocate, Gillian is highly involved in community-based initiatives regarding healthy workplace and mental health awareness, and is a fervent participant in many local sports events and clubs. Gillian holds a nine-year tenure with Morneau Shepell and works in the firm’s Health Solutions Consulting Practice.
Peter Youell, , Director of Learning & Development and Telemedicine Programs, Royal Ottawa Health Care Group
Along his 25 year journey in Mental Health Care Peter has been an active participant in the never-ending tide of organizational development. Quality, Knowledge Management, Systems Thinking, Professional Competencies, Communities of Practice; and the list goes on, but as times change and paradigms shift, Peter always relies on the factors that sustain the human spirit as the foundation for workplace performance and health. For that reason, he is a passionate supporter of Building Healthy Workplaces.
